A Doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother before, during, and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest and most satisfying experience possible.
Prenatal Group Appointments
We have been invited by the Women's Healthcare Associates Gateway Clinic Midwives to join them in their prenatal group appointments that focus on Labor and Delivery Prep. We get to share with the expecting parents what doulas do, why we do it, and what that might look like when their big day comes.
Labor and Delivery Support
We volunteer in 12 hour slots of on-call time. When we receive the call from the Midwife with a laboring person who is requesting a doula, we head to Providence Portland Medical Center.
Doula Observation Opportunities
We offer new and student doulas the chance to shadow a more experienced volunteer on a few shifts and see what doula work looks like in action. This is a rare opportunities and we love that we get the chance to offer this.
Community with Other Birth Workers
We are always having little gatherings to get to know each other, process our experiences, and share our life with each other. It is always a good time when Birth Workers gather together.
